Can you bake a pie?

Get revved up for a fun-filled afternoon of music, games, prizes and over 200 homemade apple pies! On Sunday, October 18th the Friends of Holstein Park bring you the 5th Annual Bucktown Apple Pie Contest!

A fundraising event for Holstein Park, this is an apple pie baking contest that draws amateur bakers and pastry pros from all over the city to compete for the coveted blue ribbon. And the competition is fierce! In the words of Time Out Chicago, it’s the “Clash of the Pie Pans!” So if you’re a great baker, before you sharpen that paring knife, or break out the good rolling pin or hone your most delicious recipe, register to enter because there are only 125 contestant slots.

A panel of local chefs, restaurateurs, gourmands and even a few celebrities will donate their time and taste buds to judge dozens of apple pies, looking for the ultimate combination of appearance, taste and texture. Barring any culinary emergencies, renowned Chicago chefs Koren Grieveson of Avec and Carrie Nahabedian of NAHA will be among our finalist judges.

Not much of a baker? No problem! Come on by to hear great bluegrass music by Tangleweed, bring the kids to decorate pumpkins, bid on something great at the silent auction, take your chances on the $1,000 cash raffle or just cheer on your favorite baker. But come hungry, because after the judges have their say, you can try some of those fabulous pies for just a few bucks and conduct your own taste test.
