The Bucktown Apple Pie Contest is just one of many events we organize every year to raise money for the park.
Family Learning and Shakespeare June 12
Senior Citizens Memorial Park
Family Workshop at 1pm
Free performance at 6pm
The Comedy of Errors
Help the whole family get in the Shakespearean grove with Stone Soup Shakespeare’s interactive workshop: Think Like Shakespeare.
Kids and parents will get into the mindset of Shakespeare, with rhythmic exercises, word-creating games, and acting warm-ups! We’ll talk about broad plot outlines of The Comedy of Errors and let you know what to expect at the performance that evening.
The workshop is geared toward families with kids age 4 and up, there is a suggested donation of $10/family, and registration is required. See you there!
Bucktown Yard Sale
Registration for the Bucktown Yard Sale is open!
More details about the sale will be posted as we get closer to the sale.
Get ready for the Bucktown Yard Sale!
Please join us for the first annual Bucktown Yard Sale at Holstein Park on Saturday May 14, 2016, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, just north of the playground. The yard sale will be an opportunity for you to tidy up and sell stuff you can no longer use: baby and kid clothes, kitchen gear, books, craft supplies, linens, and even furniture. Make extra space in your house and replace it with some money! Extra money is always useful.
Or, if you’re moving to the community and need a few things to make your new house a home, stop by and see what’s on offer. You may find exactly what you need.
Even if you’re not in the mood to shop or sell, stop by to say hi and get to know Holstein Park. We have a large outdoor Olympic size pool, a new playground, a field house with a stained glass dome in the auditorium. Mark you calendars now; registration will be available soon.
Family Learning at Holstein Park Friday, April 1st
Families are invited to the field house for a dog-themed evening of reading, crafts, play, and FUN! Join us on Friday, April 1, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Register here.
Don’t Miss FELT Fundraiser on March 9
Get ready for some serious custom shopping on March 9, 2016 at FELT, 2317 N. Milwaukee. Go by yourself or with a group of friends and let FELT stylists help you find the must-have pieces that will work for you. Here’s the best part: FELT will donate 10% of all proceeds to Holstein Park programs.
Tree Talk March 16 at 7pm
Holstein Park Ash Borer Issue Update
Many of you have seen the unfortunate devastation that the Ash Borer has unleashed on Holstein Park, as it has throughout the City of Chicago and the Midwest states. Hundreds of millions of Ash trees have been destroyed by the Ash Borer. The Friends of Holstein Park and the Park District are hosting a meeting at the fieldhouse to discuss the plan to replace the trees cut down due to the bug. Join us for the discussion at Holstein on March 16th at 7pm in the auditorium. An arborist from the Park District Forestry Department will be at the meeting. In the meantime, you can check out the links below:

What We’re Planning for 2016
The Friends of Holstein Park has plenty of events scheduled for this year–some returning favorites and some brand new activities. We are moving ahead with Family Movie Nights, the Easter Egg Hunt, and Summer Movies. The Bucktown Apple Pie Contest will return if we can recruit some volunteers to help with planning. New ideas for 2016 include an Earth Day cleanup, a Spring Cleaning Yard Sale, a Gardening Committee, Family Learning Events, and a Dog Event.
All of these activities showcase Holstein Park and make our neighborhood better, more desirable, and more fun. If you’d like to be involved in any of these events, we’d love your help! Contact us at email@example.com.
What We Did in 2015
Friends of Holstein park had a great 2015. Here’s some of the things we did:
- organized a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt
- threw the Family Dance Party
- hosted three indoor Movies in the Park for neighborhood families
- served over 600 pieces of pie at the Bucktown Apple Pie Party
- purchased lane markers and furniture for the pool area
- celebrated the holidays with volunteers and friends at the Corner Bar
Thank you again to all the volunteers who made these events happen! Please sign up to help us out in 2016! Coming up in January are our Advisory Council Elections.
Friends of Holstein Park: Advisory Council Elections
Looking to get more involved in your neighborhood? Join us on the Advisory Council of the Friends of Holstein Park.
What does the Advisory Council do? We plan events that we would love for our community to enjoy, while supporting the staff at Holstein Park however we can.
In the past year we’ve provided funds for new pool lane markers and deck chairs, supported the lifeguards with end of summer gifts, gave thank you gifts to the volunteer soccer referees, and more.
We will be holding elections at our January 19th Board Meeting and we have plenty of spots for interested neighbors. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the Holstein Park Field House. Want to get involved and cannot make the meeting? Please send an email to us at here along with your area of interest. We’ll be sure to include you.
Areas of interest may include:
- Bucktown Apple Pie Party/Contest
- Dog Event
- Easter Event
- Family Movie Nights
- And whatever else you can dream up for our community!
Help us keep our events going strong in 2016!
