Inside the gym at the Bucktown Apple Pie Contest

The Bucktown Apple Pie Contest is just one of many events we organize every year to raise money for the park.

Bucktown Apple Pie Party: Continuing the Pie Love

No Contest…No Rules…Just Apple Pie

The Holstein Park field house was scheduled for a major overhaul this year, which prevented us from planning the Bucktown Apple Pie Contest for 2015. Current political and budget realities have put that project on hold, but we do know that our beloved neighborhood tradition, The Bucktown Apple Pie Contest, must continue. The Friends of Holstein Park is continuing the pie love by throwing a pie party on Sunday, September 20th, from 2-5pm.

At the party, you can still have your fresh, homemade apple pie! Past contestants and new donors will be going wild, providing pies with only 1 rule: they must be apple. No double crust. No restriction on ingredients. No entrance fee. If it looks like a pie, we will gratefully accept your donation (we’d be even more grateful if you can do more than one!).

In addition to slices of delicious apple pie, join us this fall for:

–        Live Music

–        Magician Show

–        Balloon Creations

–        Kids Activities

–        And much more!

To register to donate a pie,  Email us at bucktownapple@gmail.com

Let’s Keep the Pool Cool!

Pool season is here! Due to neighbors who support us, Friends of Holstein Park is purchasing new lane markers for the pool and umbrellas for the lifeguards. Thank you!!!

Last year we used your donations to purchase new deck chairs for the pool. Please consider making a donation this summer to help us continue to make our park better for everyone in the community.  We’ll see you at the park this summer!

Special Notice

The Holstein Park Field is officially closed until further notice. In order to beautify the grassy area, the Chicago Park District is re-sodding the field and working to bring back the beautiful grass we all enjoy. Past events and regular wear and tear contributed to the need for this work. Please respect this work and avoid the field.

Pool Opens: June 12

The pool will be open June 12th! Due to neighbors who support Friends of Holstein Park, we were able to purchase new lane markers for the pool. Thank you!!! Know that your donations and attendance at our events only make our park better!

More details will be provided, but this event will include fun for everyone, including a live band, activities for the kids, pie sale, and more.

If you are interesting in helping plan or volunteer at this year’s event, please email us at

If you are interested in getting involved in your community, please come to our next meeting on June 16th at 7 pm in the Field House (always the 3rd Tuesday or each month).
